Words of Life

November 10, 2017

When asked to write a blog post regarding encouraging men in my life, I wondered who it should be, and would I be able to do that person the justice they so richly deserve.

I have had the honor of meeting wonderful, encouraging, and inspirational men throughout my life, but I had to choose the one I know the best, my own father.

I suppose being a father must be one of the most difficult jobs that there is. Amongst being expected to be the provider of tangible needs, they are also expected to be an emotional provider.

My father is the father of three girls, so he had his fair share of “emotional providing,” to do, and even though he was not an overly affectionate man, his words were momentous in my own life.

The most profound time I believe was when I was personally going through an extremely difficult time in my life. I was in a fragile state and I felt like I was the only one who had ever gone through what I was going through. To be in a dark place and to feel alone is one of the most difficult things to face, and here is where my father through out his lifeline. He let me know that he too had faced similar times, he let me know that I was “normal,” and that there was nothing new under the sun. He taught me that God does not always deal in signs, but will teach us to lean more and more upon faith. He has taught me when questioning God, that if we only knew the mind of God, we would make the same decision as He. Having his encouragement and words of wisdom and not judgement, was most precious and more revered than fine gold. His words and his availability helped pull me through those difficult times. Proverbs 18:21 says,”Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

I would urge all men to pray without ceasing, pray that you will have those right words, those words of life, those of encouragement, because there may be one that comes to you, broken, scared and confused and those words you speak will literally bring that person from the brink of destruction.

Whether one is a father or not,  let all men who love the Lord, seek to speak words of life.

May God bless and keep you.
